The Finnish conductor Petri Sakari is visiting The Faroese Symphony Orchestra and will conduct the Autumn concert. The orchestra will perform two pieces. The first piece is a premiere of a Piano Concerto, written by Kristian Blak. Mattias Dimitris Kapnas is the soloist. The second work is Brahms’ 4th Symphony.
Piano Concerto – Kristian Blak (1947)
The sound of homemade lambskin drums from “Stóru Dìmun”, and Faroese rock stones from the villages “Porkeri”, Froðba and Hvalba are part of the experience for this concert.
Kristian Blak often mixes other art genres into his music. It can be, for example, poetry readings, plays or painters.
work is inspired by nature, which will be heard in the performance of the piano concerto.
Soloist – Mattias Dimitris Kapnas (1991)
Mattias is a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where he, among other things. examined in Faroese piano music. His repertoire ranges from classical to rhythmic and electronic music.
Mattias has a dazzling ability to interpret works and give them new life and he played with the Faroe Islands Symphony Orchestra for the first time in 2015
4 Symphony – Johannes Brahms (1833-1897)
The symphony is the last in a series of Brahms symphonies. Brahms was known for being very self-critical, and for 30 years he fought a fierce battle with his symphonies. He would not be left behind for the nine symphonies that Beethoven had written 60-70 years earlier. Being self-critical it was not uncommon for his works to end up as firewood on the spot.
Guest Conductor Petri Sakari (1958)
Petri Sakari completed his studies at the Sibelius Academy in Finland in 1981. He graduated in both violin and conducting.
Petri Sakari is known for his clear interpretations, depth and intelligence.
For 10 years he was chief conductor of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, and as a guest conductor has led the large well-known orchestras in countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Mexico, Sweden, and now he also visits the Faroe Islands.
