The story about
The Pakkhúsið was built in 1861 by Zacharias Heinesen, originally from Sandavágur, and his sons Heina Zachariassen and Ole Jacob Zachariassen. The cellar was used for working locally caught fish and storing it. In the old days there was a lot of activity down by the pier. On the first floor, was a shop and a post office. This was the first shop to open on the west-side of Vagar after the Royal monopoly was abolished in 1856. The attic was mainly used as a storage facility.
The house today
Early in the millennium the present owner started renovating and refurbishing the building externally, because it was in a poor condition. Firstly the roof was changed and laid with turf. Then it was covered outside with Pine. Inside the attic has ace-profiled wood and the beams appear in their original state. A little Oven/fireplace, gives a certain character to the room. The dining room is on the first floor and there is also a toilet and a resting room. The room seats about 40 guests and together with the attic, it is well suited for small and medium sized events. In the cellar there are plans to establish a sea-museum. Outside the house the majestic scenery embraces you where ever you turn. The veranda on the sea-side is the perfect place to absorb the fresh air and the exclusive beauty of the Faroes.
