Lea Kampmann in OY

Hear the talented singer Lea Kampmann perform her latest release: Seinferð

The talented singer Lea Kampmann has just released her first album in Faroese: Seinferð (Slow Journey).

It was a few days before Christmas Eve in 2022. Snow lay like a heavy blanket over Hoydalar. Teitur and I sat in the recording studio at Hjallurin, in the old Sanatorium, watching the snowflakes settle on the window panes, roofs, and branches around us. I was on sick leave due to stress from the conservatory in Copenhagen, and I felt dizzy and exhausted all the time, even while lying in bed. But on this December day, Teitur and I committed ourselves to creating an album that would be a rebellion against the speed of modern life—an inner rebellion against the notion that one must keep up with others, even when it doesn’t feel right. I knew that the only thing that would make me feel whole again was allowing myself to live, write, and sing at a slow pace. To dare to let the walls I had built around myself fall, and to have the courage to be myself, in the language I used when I first said, “I love you.”

Most of the songs on the album are about love—lost love, growing love, and memories of a love that once was. The songs were written with Teitur Lassen, who also produced the album. Everything on the album is played and sung softly, with acoustic guitars, strings, and woodwinds. Recording and creating this album felt like lying inside a Spanish guitar, far away from screens and noise.
