The Faroe Islands' largest school is in a striking building designed by BIG

Glasir in Marknagil is the largest educational institution in the Faroe Islands, with more than 1,500 students. The distinctive school building opened in 2018 and was designed by the internationally renowned architecture studio BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group.

The building is organised around a large circular atrium, with different levels opening onto the central space through broad steps and seating areas. Glass, concrete and wood define the architecture, while large windows frame views of Tórshavn and the surrounding Faroese landscape.

Glasir is an active school rather than a regular visitor attraction. If you would like to see the building from the inside, visits must be arranged with the school in advance.
