The hotel opened in 1951 and was named Hafnia, the latin word for "harbour".
All throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s, Hotel Hafnia expanded into its present position as one of the best hotels in The Faroe Islands.

The hotel restaurant is located on the first floor overlooking the main street. This restaurant is well known for its international cuisine, offering a variety of international courses as well as Faroese specialities, prepared and served by internationally trained chefs and restaurant staff.
