Syðrugøta

Syðrugøta is a historic village, known for the G! festival and fishing industry

Syðrugøta is the southern settlement of the two old Gøta villages, dating back to the Viking Age. The village lies facing Gøtuvík, and on many winter days, its residents can enjoy the beautiful sunrise on the eastern horizon.

In the past, knitting was a significant activity in Syðrugøta. The Tøting factory, located in the middle of the village, produced the famous Faroese Tøting sweaters.

Additionally, the people of Gøta are known for their purse seine fishing, and today, Syðrugøta is home to two of the largest fishing companies in the country: P/F Varðin, which operates the pelagic vessels Gøtunes, Finn Fríði, Tróndur í Gøtu, and Tummas T, and Faroe Origin, which operates four pair trawlers.

Syðrugøta is known for its large beach and the annual G! festival, which gives the village its unique character and attracts several thousand people from all over the country and abroad.
