Ove's boat – Diana Victoria
Three decades ago, Ove Joensen (1948-1987) decided to row 900 miles (1,450km) across the North Sea from his home in the Faroe Islands to Denmark. His persistence made him a national hero.
The Nólsoy born Ove Joensen started his journey from Nólsoy the 1st. of July 1986 in the rowing boat Diana Victoria. His ambition was to row from the Faroe Islands to Denmark all alone in his boat. After 41 days at sea Ove reached the Langelinie in Copenhagen August 11th. He then had conquered 900 miles alone at sea.
The annual village festival Ovastevna in August, is a celebration in Nólsoy when locals and thousands of visitors celebrate and honor the legend Ove Joensen.
A small museum is made in the basement of the tourist information, where you can see Diana Victoria, the boat that carried Ove his long sea journey and watch photos that describe the journey.
