Tróndargrund
Experience the Viking heritage of Norðragøta and its statue of Tróndur.
The legacy of the ancient Viking chief Tróndur is deeply rooted in the villages of Gøta, especially in Norðragøta. Part of the basement of Jákupstova in Norðragøta, known as Tróndargrund, carries on the legend of Tróndur. In the early 1980s, during renovations to raise the basement ceiling, bones and other settlement remains were discovered and later dated to around 630 AD.
Nearby, just a hundred meters from Tróndur's cellar, stands the striking statue of Tróndur í Gøtu, sculpted by Hans Pauli Olsen and unveiled in 2008.
