History of the farm
Janus- and his wife, Bára Joensen, took over the farm in 2000 after Janus’s uncle retired. When Janus and Bára took over the farm, they decided to run it as a company. They named the farm company “Varmakeldugarðurin” after a natural hot water spring on the farmland. The name of the spring, Varmakelda, translates to “hot spring”.
Varmakelda is the warmest natural spring in the Faroe Islands, and its temperature is constant at 18-19°C (approx. 65°F).
Over centuries, people from near and far have travelled to Varmakelda to drink its pure natural mineral water. As the legend goes, it is said to have healing power. Walk down to Varmakelda and sip – you might feel better for it.
