After a steep and challenging walk in the beginning of the path, the rest of the journey is an easier short ascent to “Hovstúgvu” (Túgvan í Halgafelli). Finally, there is a long and enjoyable downhill walk to Øravík, which offers a good view of Trongisvágsfjørð.
Hov - Øravík
This route starts on the road above the village of Hov, at 180-meter height. Seventy meters above is the famous Tindurin, which is to be scaled on the trip. The first visible stone cairn is located in the top of the narrow cleft going through Tindurin. It looks steep and challenging, but it should not be a problem on a decent summer day, unless you have a fear of heights.
Unfortunately, the pathway below Tindurin is not well maintained and the stone cairn marker is not so visible, due to landslides. There are lots of loose stones and material on this section of the route and it is recommended that you take your time to find the safest areas to walk through. Once arriving on top of Tindurin, it becomes easier to walk and it is only a short stretch to “Skarðið í Kambi” – just 30 meters higher.
The view from there is stunning, looking over Hov, Hovsfjørð and up into the valley Hovsdal.
There is another short walk uphill to the east side of Hovstúgva (Túgva í Halgafelli).
However, after reaching the top of the mountain, it is a long and easy descent to Øravík. As you walk downwards along the cairns, you will appreciate the spectacular scenery of Trongisvásfjørð.
Unfortunately, the area around the Øravík community is fenced off with two fences, one of which is barb-wired. You will need to find a safe spot to climb over the fence until there has been made a gate through the fence.

There is a good connection between Hov and Øravík with route 700.
From the closest bus stop in Hov, you must walk up, along the old road between Hov and Øravík.
Parking in Hov
Cars can be parked at the large parking area by the road towards “Hovsegg”. Park only on the lower side of the road due to the danger of small stones rolling onto the road – (green markings on the photo).
From here, walk along the blue line, where a path following the main road towards Tindur has been made.

Parking in Øravík
Park by the prayer house – check the green markings. Tvøroy Council advises you to up by the upperside houses. Then across the barb-wired fence. Check blue arrows on the photo. Then walk towards the first stone cairn, which becomes visible on high ground. Check red markings.

In the beginning of the route above Hov, adults are advised to be extremely cautious about their children's safety.
Medium
- This is an excellent route to take for those who are careful, physically capable and not afraid of heights. But the first 70-meter walk from the main road in Hovi and the ascent of Tindurin are steep stretches and can be difficult for some people. From the top of Tindur it is easy and relatively flat to walk the rest of the way to Øravík.
The terrain is decent and mostly grass-covered, except just below Hov. There the path is unkempt, and rather stony, amidst the otherwise grassy area around the main road towards Tindur.
