The Authors’ Quarter: Snorri Brend

BÓKADAGAR 2026: Authors with New Books Read Aloud

Author Snorri Brend reads excerpts from his latest book, Stór er tín trúfesti – Mikladals kirkja 111 ár (Great Is Thy Faithfulness – 111 Years of Mikladalur Church), published in October.
Among other things, we will hear about:
Who consecrated the church in 1915
Was it Provost Fríðrik Petersen, as most people believe, or could it have been A.C. Evensen? The local newspaper Norðlýsið had the answer.
The altarpiece from 1949
The dramatic altarpiece became Jógvan Waagstein’s final work of art. How did the altarpiece find its way into the church, and what can this painting, now approaching 80 years old, tell us today?
The Christmas tie
Magnus Eliassen, the church’s regular organist, also served as a parish clerk. One Christmas Day, during the service, he wore his finest Christmas tie. But as he walked around collecting donations for the church, the tie suddenly began playing Jingle Bells.
This is the fifth book published by Snorri Brend. His previous books are:

Hon fór út (1999) – about Kaja Lamhauge, who travelled to Nigeria as a missionary at the age of just 23.

Hetta er okkara bygd (2016) – about the village of Norðdepil, which celebrated its 150th anniversary.

Vit liva og virka (2021) – about MEGD, which celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Ljósið á Oyruni (2024) – about Hvannasund Church, which celebrated its 75th anniversary.

The Authors’ Quarter is a series of reading events where members of the Faroese Writers’ Association, Rithøvundafelag Føroya, who have new books out, read from their recently published works.
